When printing a plan, there are multiple ways to zoom in on a plan to refine what is in the view. Let’s examine the various options.
Printing From Model View
Display all the elements you want to see when printing from Model View.
- Select View > View Filter > View Filter or select the View Filter button from the toolbar.
- Turn the elements on or off as needed by closing the Eye for Display.
- You can also turn entire locations on or off by deselecting the All Locations option and then choosing the location you want to edit. Select OK when finished.
Now you can print your desired view from Model.
- Select File > Print.
- In the Print dialog select the Printer you want to print to as well as the Paper Size and Orientation. Depending on the printer, the size of the paper may be limited.
- In the Print Area, select the Window option from the drop-down list and then select the Window button.
- This will bring you into your model space, where you can define what you want to print. Left-click once outside the desired area to start creating the window and then left-click again so that everything you wanted printed is inside the window.
- Under Print Scaling set the scale you would like to print the drawing to. Remember that the size of the paper may not be able to hold the full size of your design at certain scales. If the scale is too large for the sheet, you will see lines through the page indicating that multiple sheets will be required.
- Select the Print button to print the page.
Printing From WorkSheet
Using the Print Dialog in a WorkSheet is the same as printing from Model. The only difference is the SmartView you define will determine what is included in the print, and you have control over printed line weights.
However, maybe you only want a small portion of your plan to be printed. This can be done by adjusting what is included in the creation of the SmartView.
- Select a Worksheet that you want to add a SmartView to.
- Select Insert > SmartViews > Define SmartView or select the Define SmartView button under the Insert
- In the Insert View dialog we are going to use a Section and create a Roof Detail. Select the Section option and chose a created Section. Once a section is selected it will appear in the preview area. Note: a section needs to be created in your model for it to be displayed here.
- In the Name section, give this view a unique name. Since we know this will be a Roof Detail, we will name this Roof Detail View.
- We are going to scale this view up to show more detail, so the Scale should be set to 1/2″ = 1′-0″.
- Next, we are going to adjust what is visible in the view by selecting the View Filter In the View Filter we want to see everything, so we will select the Display All option.
- We still need to see the framing of the elements, so we need to open the different elements that contain framing and then Unlock them and ensure that framing is displayed. Do this for all the elements that have framing. Then select OK to close the dialog.
- The Preview area will now display all the elements that will be included, serving as a clipping plane. Anything that is within the view area will be included in the SmartView. We can use this to clip out anything we do not want to see. Use the Zoom Window button in the dialog and create a Window around the roof and wall section. This zooms the view to just that area.
- You can use the Pan button to position it exactly where you want.
- In the Insertion area, ensure it is set to Drawing, and then select the Insert
- Attached to your cursor will be the zoomed-in section of the roof and wall detail. Left-click in your worksheet to insert it.
