With the Cathedral Ceiling option in Envisioneer, you can transform an inserted ceiling into a vaulted or single-slope ceiling. Let’s explore how to create both types of ceilings in your design.
Cathedral Ceiling:
- Select Insert > Ceilings > Ceiling by Room or by selecting the drop-down option beside the Ceiling button under the Building Tab and then selecting Ceiling by Room.
- In the catalog panel to the right, select the ½” Drywall Ceiling option under the Unframed folder.
- Left-click once in the middle of a room to insert the ceiling. You will now see an orange dotted line around the interior perimeter of your walls.
- Select the ceiling, right-click it, and select Properties.
- Under the Basic tab, select the Cathedral option under the Type section and press OK.
- In your 2D Plan view, select the top and bottom arrows to highlight the edges of the cathedral ceiling, right-click, and select Properties.
- Under the Basic tab Properties section, adjust the Edge Condition b-Skirt Width to be 0”. This will remove the skirting along those edges.
- There are two ways to create the look of a gable end cathedral ceiling. You can adjust the Edge Shape to be Gable. This will remove the ceiling material on the gable ends and display the wall material. You will use this option if you have a window in the gable end or want the wall material to be displayed. You can keep the Edge Shape set to Straight but adjust the Slope Value to 90°. This will keep the drywall ceiling material at the ends of the ceiling. You will use this option if you want to close off an interior side of a cathedral ceiling without a wall below or if you wish to use the same ceiling material in the gable ends. We are going to adjust ours to be a Gable.
- Press OK to close the Ceiling properties dialogue and accept the changes.
- We can now look at our new Cathedral Ceiling using a 3D Camera.
Single Slope Ceiling:
We will use the same ceiling we just inserted but adjust the Properties to create a Single Slope Ceiling.
- Select the left edge of the ceiling and make the arrow green. Ensure that it is the only green arrow, and then right-click and select Properties.
- Under the Basic tab Properties section, adjust the Edge Condition b-Skirt Width to be 0”. This will remove the skirting along that edge.
- Then, adjust the Edge Shape to be Gable.
- Select OK in the Ceilings dialog to accept the changes for that edge.
- Select the right edge of the ceiling and make the arrow green. Ensure it is the only green arrow, then right-click and select Properties. We will use this edge as the lowest point of the ceiling, making it our slope edge.
- Under the Basic tab Properties section, adjust the Edge Condition b-Skirt Width to be 0”. This will remove the skirting along that edge.
- Select the Slope Type drop-down button and select the ? in 12 option or rise over run.
- Then, adjust the c—Slope Value to the slope value you want for the ceiling. We will enter 3 to get a 3 in 12 sloped ceiling.
- Press OK to close the Ceiling properties dialog and accept the changes.
