Arched Roof

Steps:

To create a Barrel Roof in Envisioneer, use the Arched Roof option after generating a gable roof. In this example, an 18’ x 36’ structure has been prepared with a 6/12 shingle roof already applied. The front and back of the roof are set as Gable Ends, and all walls are configured to “Extrude to Roof” with a 6” offset for seamless integration.

  1. Select the left and right sides of the roof in your 2D Plan view, then right-click and select Properties
  2. Under the Roof Properties Basic tab, select the Roof Shape button and adjust this from a Hip to an Arched. This sets the left and right edges as an arched roof, and we can see the new values to edit in the Parameters section
  3. In the Parameters, we will set these values based on information from the structure and on values that we want to use for our design.
  4. The first value to adjust is the c-Overhang. Set this to 1’, but you can use any value you want for your design.
  5. Next, adjust the h-Radius, this value should be half the total width of our design. Since we adjusted the Overhang to be 1’ and know the structure width is 18’, we know the total width is 20’. This makes our radius 10’.
  6. We will now start adjusting the angles we want our roof to start and end. The first angle we will adjust this the b-Start Angle. This value can be adjusted to match the look you are trying to achieve. We will set ours to 60°. Again, you can adjust this value if you want the starting angle to be steeper.
  7. Next, we will adjust the g-End Angle to 0°. Since we want this to be a curved roof, we do not want a flat section at the ridge where the two sides meet.
  8. The last value we will adjust is the i-Fascia Distance. This value controls how high you want the fascia to sit off the ground. If you want the roof to drop down closer to the ground to create a Quonset-style building, you could enter a lower value here. We are going to set ours at 8’.
  9. Select OK in the roof dialogue to accept the changes.

Your new Barrel Roof has been created, and you can now view your new roof design from any 3D Camera View.
