Buiding a roof

ChantaleKeymasterI am new to this program as well as new to the construction field. I have been given the task of learning this program inside and out as well as still learning construction. On to my questiion… i have a basic three bedroom ranch that has two additions…All three have their own seperate rooves tied in together…i can not get the middle gable end roof to tie into the original gable end roof of the opposit direction. Can I get some help please?

If you’ve created all walls on the same Location, use the Roof by Perimeter tool then edit the properties of each segment to adjust pitching height, overhang hip/gable/dutch etc
But if walls are on separate locations, you’d need to use Roof by Picking Points.February 4, 2018 at 12:27 am #9323
jkzimmParticipantIn order to create a roof that contains 2 seperate roofs you have to create two seperate roofs.
One way to do it is to:
1 Make the ‘left’ roof , up to the point where the other starts by using Roof by Pick Points. Make sure that the right ends points are exactly in line, to get a ‘straight’ gable end.
Now you MUST set right arrow to Gable end and to a .12″ overhang. You cannot add the second roof and have its Gable intersecting the other, so zero or 1/8″ overhang helps keep them seperate.
2. Draw right roof by pick points staying away from the first roof.
Start this roof about 2′ away from the first ones gable end because it will automatically be a 1′- 4″ overhang (or more). Convert both ‘ends to Gable.
Select the ‘left’ Gable and set to .12″.
Now drag the 2 roof very close to each other but not allowing them to touch.
Finally select the far Right Roof and click on it’s two hip arrows, turning them green, no other arrows should be selected. (If you use the indent single roof method, you have to select 4 arrows to adjust height)
Right click, select Properties of those hips and under Support and Details set the Support Height to 7′ 4″ or whatever you need to drop it down.
Quite quick once you know how.

You can do the same with one roof by pick points but you must make a indentation where the 2 meet, set the indent to /.12″ or 0″, overhang and then adjust gable ends and Support height.
The attached show ONE roof using the indent method.
